MateChat features

MateChat adds a chat window, an F8 shortcut, provider configuration, custom system prompts, and optional GPT-SoVITS speech. It can use third-party or self-hosted AI endpoints, which means prompts and API credentials may leave your computer depending on your configuration. The ZIP is still available from the original GitHub release, but the repository explicitly says it is no longer maintained or supported.

  • Chat with the current companion through configurable LLM providers.

  • Configure model name, endpoint, prompt, window size, and identity labels.

How to install MateChat

  1. Confirm you are intentionally using a compatible legacy Desktop Mate setup.
  2. Back up the installation and settings folders.
  3. Download Desktop.Mate.zip from the original v1.2.1 GitHub release.
  4. Extract the archive into the Desktop Mate directory so Mods and UserLibs land in the correct locations.
  5. Launch once, then edit UserData/MateChat.cfg with your chosen provider and model settings.
  6. Keep any optional GPT-SoVITS server local and review its own dependencies separately.

How to use it

  • Press F8 or choose MateChat from the character menu.
  • Enter a short test prompt before enabling voice or adding a paid API key.
  • Use a restricted API key with spending limits and never publish the configuration file.

Desktop Mate compatibility

MateChat was archived on March 17, 2025. Its README says Desktop Mate no longer supports modding and no further support will be provided. The page is retained as a sourced historical guide, not a current compatibility promise.

How to remove the mod

Delete the MateChat DLL and related UserLibs files listed in its ZIP. Remove UserData/MateChat.cfg if it contains credentials, then rotate any API key that may have been exposed.

Troubleshooting

  • No menu or F8 response: inspect the MelonLoader log; a current Desktop Mate build is the most likely incompatibility.
  • API errors: verify the base URL, model identifier, account ID, and provider-specific key permissions.
  • No speech: confirm GPT-SoVITS is listening at the configured local URL and that the reference audio path exists.

Is MateChat an official AI feature?

No. It is an archived community MelonLoader mod and is not affiliated with infiniteloop.

Does MateChat send prompts online?

It can. Data handling depends on the API endpoint you configure; read that provider's privacy policy before use.

Can I download it directly?

The download button points directly to the original GitHub v1.2.1 release asset, with a legacy warning shown first.
