NoSteam

NoSteam allowed an old Desktop Mate executable to start without opening the Steam client. The author archived it because newer Desktop Mate versions made the mod unusable; it is not a crack, DLC unlock, or supported offline build.

NoSteam features

When Steam was closed, the DLL patched the legacy app's startup check; when Steam was already open, it did nothing. Users paired it with Windows Startup shortcuts or separate copied installations for multiple instances. The repository now documents a Steam depot downgrade, but using frozen builds sacrifices updates and may introduce security or DLC problems, so this site does not recommend downgrading.

How to install NoSteam

  1. Do not use this with the current Steam build; the author says it is incompatible.
  2. If researching a legacy setup, back up files and keep your current official installation separate.
  3. Download DesktopMate_NoSteam.dll only from the original archived GitHub release.
  4. Place it in the legacy MelonLoader Mods folder.
  5. Never use third-party prepatched executables, DLC unlockers, or repacked game folders.

How to use it

  • Close Steam before launching the compatible legacy DesktopMate.exe.
  • For startup, create a shortcut to your own legitimate executable and place that shortcut in shell:Startup.
  • Do not confuse offline startup with ownership of paid character DLC.

Desktop Mate compatibility

How to remove the mod

Remove DesktopMate_NoSteam.dll, delete any startup shortcut you created, and return to the current Steam-managed installation. Verify files through Steam if needed.

Troubleshooting

  • Steam still opens: you are probably using an incompatible build or the DLL did not load.
  • Desktop Mate fails to update: stop using the copied legacy folder and return to the official Steam install.
  • DLC missing: NoSteam does not grant DLC rights; use Steam and the account that owns the content.

Is NoSteam a crack?

The author describes an offline-mode startup patch for a legitimate installation. This site does not provide cracked files, DLC unlocks, or prepatched executables.

Why not recommend the documented downgrade?

Old depots miss current fixes and may conflict with services or DLC. The archived project is useful history, not a safe default.

Can I download the archived DLL?

Yes, the button resolves to the original GitHub release, but the page requires you to acknowledge the known incompatibility.
